De acuerdo con "Light-attracted hawkmoths (Lepidoptera: Sphingidae) of Boracéia,
municipality of Salesópolis, state of São Paulo, Brazil", esta especie y A. titan son las que están presentes en Sao Paulo. A. fadus se diferencia de A. titan (y de otras especies) por la falta del punto negro en las alas anteriores, y porque las manchas blancas de las alas están divididas en dos, como atravesadas por líneas oscuras horizontales.
