ECOREGISTROS JOINS AVILIST, THE NEW UNIFIED GLOBAL TAXONOMIC SOURCE
Bird taxonomy, essential for birdwatching and citizen science, has faced challenges due to multiple internationally recognized checklists. AviList is a new project aiming to unify these sources into a single global list, supported by key institutions like Cornell Lab and BirdLife International. EcoRegistros, which previously used the BirdLife checklist, has decided to adopt AviList to improve interoperability between platforms and avoid conflicts and data loss. This adoption allows faster and more accurate taxonomic updates while maintaining important information such as conservation status. Finally, the update to AviList involved significant changes in species and scientific names, while respecting the regional diversity of Spanish names and adapting to processes like splits and mergers.
