Identificado espécie jovem com equipe da Universidade Federal - Trata-se da subespécie Saltator maximus maximus (Statius Muller, 1776): Ocorre do leste da Colômbia, leste da Venezuela e Guianas, sudeste da Bolívia, Paraguai e Brasil (Paynter 1970). Os jovens não apresentam a plumagem de indivíduos adultos antes dos três ou quatro meses. Sua plumagem diferenciada apresenta o queixo branco e garganta manchados; o supercilio é manchado de verde oliva e a coroa é verde oliva opaco.
