Synonyms: Spermophila pileata.


Description: Black crown, white ventral side, olive-brownish back, black wings with a white band, and black tail. The female is olive green dorsally, contrasted with a lighter ventral side, indistinguishable from most females of other Sporophila species.

Geographic Distribution within Argentina: South of Misiones and northeast of Corrientes.

Habitat: Grasslands.

Feeding: Seeds.

Behavior: Territorial. Melodious song made up of several sweet whistles that are very pleasant to the ear.

Breeding: Semi-spherical nest made of plant material, delicate.
