Description: Gray crown, rufous ventral and back, slate wing coverts, black wings with a white band, and black tail. The female is olive green dorsally, contrasting with the lighter ventral side, indistinguishable from most females of other Sporophila species.

Geographic Distribution within Argentina: Misiones, Formosa, Chaco, Corrientes, Santa Fé, Entre Ríos, and Buenos Aires.

Habitat: Grasslands.

Feeding: Seeds.

Behavior: Territorial. Melodious song composed of several sweet whistles very pleasant to the ear.

Nesting: Semi-spherical nest, made of delicate plant material. White eggs with gray spots.
