Falco sparverius ssp. dominicensis "Cuyaya" así identificado por iNaturalist. El halconcito colorado de la subespecie dominicensis, se encuentra en la isla La Española. El nombre científico identifica al género (Falco), la especie (sparverius) y una subespecie que distingue a una población geográfica particular (dominicensis) El autor de la subespecie que habita en La Española es el ornitólogo francés Paul Descourtilz 1827
