Por el tamaño de los tornillo (8x3/4) podemos ver lo pequeñas que son, así todo poseen un veneno de efecto neurotóxico y es el mismo de la viuda negra (Latrodectus mactans), pero debido a su pequeño tamaño la viuda marrón logra inyectar generalmente su veneno en una baja concentración por lo que son raros los casos graves de su picadura.
