Determinada por Washington Laporta. Se trata de la única especie del género presente en el país, de acuerdo con "New record of Pterotaenia fasciata (Wiedemann) (Diptera, Ulidiidae) in Brazil, a probably mechanical vector of enteric bacteria" y "Morphology of yhe immature instars and biology of Pterotaenia fasciata (Wiedemann)". (Hay además una pequeña descripción de la especie en el primer trabajo). En cuanto a la sinonimia de esta especie, ver "A propósito de la mosca Melieria fasciata" (Wied)"
