Es el murciélago de mayor envergadura, llegando a 1´70 metros, pero en peso le gana el Zorro Volador Filipino.
Ambos carecen de ecolocalización, pero tienen una excelente vista nocturna para localizar los frutos y las flores que le sirven de alimento. Su actividad es diurna y nocturna indistintamente.
