Ejemplar de gran tamaño, como la palma de una mano adulta. En su concha se ven adheridos ejemplares de Limnoperna fortunei. Estos últimos, se sujetan mediante el biso a superficies duras subacuáticas, tal como rocas e incluso otras almejas y caracoles, donde se reproducen hasta formar un tapiz de altas densidades, llegando hasta más de 300.000 individuos por m2.
