Synonyms: Spermophila palustris.


Description: Crown and back are lead-colored, with black wings and a white wing band, black tail, rump, and ventral canela, with a white throat and chest. The female is olive green dorsally, contrasted with a lighter ventral area, indistinguishable from most females of other Sporophila species.

Morph: See White-collared Capuchino (Sporophila ´zelichi´).

Geographical Distribution in Argentina: Misiones, Formosa, Chaco, Corrientes, Entre Ríos, and northeast Buenos Aires.

Habitat: Marsh vegetation.

Diet: Seeds.

Behavior: Territorial. A melodious song composed of several sweet whistles, very pleasant to the ear.

Nesting: A delicate hemisphere-shaped nest made of plant material.
