Synonyms: Muscicapa icterophrys.

Description and sexual dimorphism: It is a medium-sized tyrannid, primarily yellow, which makes it stand out in the natural environments it inhabits. The male has bright yellow eyebrows, and his throat, chest, and belly, which lighten to white on the last distal subcaudal feathers. On both sides of the chest, there is an olive wash. It has a mask, crown, and nape of dark grayish olive color, with a dark olive back and rump. The wings are black, with two wing bars of grayish-white, the upper one being thicker, primary remiges with grayish-white edges, and the tail is generally dark with white lines on the outer rectrices or outer tail feathers. The females are generally paler, and olive spots are also noticeable on their throat and chest. The juvenile is similar to the female, with a narrow upper wing bar, which, unlike adults, is the widest, and also has more concentrated olive spots on the chest, particularly on the sides. The youngest have a short, thick, and yellowish commissure at the sides of the base of the beak. Their featherless parts are blackish in both sexes, like the beak, which is short and narrow, as well as the legs and iris of their eyes.
