Se diferencia de la otra Avispa Alfarera (Sc. fistularium) porque esa tiene dos bandas amarillas dorso laterales en la región posterior del tórax, algo que falta en Sc. asiaticum. Está buscando líquidos azucarados en brotes y flores de ingá, además de arañas para llevar a sus larvas.
